Who is Stephen? The Baptist John was the last prophet of the Old Testament to be killed before Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection-John is a martyr the last of the Old. Stephen was chosen to be a disciple to challenge the authority the leadership both political and religious while spreading the good news. Stephen was killed for preaching the Gospel and challenging authority. Stephen was eventually going to Rome to establish the church however that was stopped short by his murder, Stephen was stoned to death and the stoning was approved by Saul. Saul received Stephen's message before approving the murder. A short time later Saul was on the road to Damascus when he was blinded by Jesus. Saul received his instructions from Jesus and was given a new name Paul. Paul went on to establish the church in Rome. Stephen never had the opportunity to address the leaders of the world. This book - The Book of Stephen is his book of today addressing current events both religious and socially. This is Stephen's time, his message. The first martyr after Jesus.
